Birds of a Feather
Birds of a feather flock together. Yes, we do. We named our family business Two Birds Event Group in 2018 with the Currans while we were starting our own little Renno family of four. Little did I know how closely our two families would become. As a way to stay connected to the evolution of family business, both “birds” (The Rennos and the Currans) began a series of annual retreats to destinations near and far.
After six years of this, I had two major realizations:
It’s not where you go - it’s how you experience a new locale and who you are with.
Chosen family is the best part of being an adult
We’ve stayed as close to home as Door County and Wisconsin Dells, to as far as the Caribbean islands of Grand Cayman and Exuma. We have always had fun and made memories, because our Two Birds family can find awe in both the beauty and the mundane. In an effort to preserve some of these special moments, I’ve jotted down the highlights of each trip.
2020 - Tucson - Hiked Mount Lemon and Sabino Canyon; visited the Gem show, Saguaro National Park, the outdoor Desert Museum/zoo, and stayed at a beautiful resort that was far too fancy for us.
2021 - Wisconsin Dells, Wilderness Resort - All of our waterpark and arcade dreams came true. Visited the lavender farm to find balance.
2022 - Naples, Florida - We played for hours in the sand at the Naples public beach, visited Marco Island and spent many hour swimming in our private pool. Tyler brought back rollerblading and invented the card game “Guess what card I am.
2023 - Door County -Although it was June, it was chilly and rainy so we did a lot of indoor crafts, played in the Air Bnb’s game room at the house, started a cold plunge ritual at a nearby beach and visited Washington Island.
2024 - Ft Lauderdale - Hung out at Hollywood Beach, met a dog named Potato that inspired the Currans to get a King Cavalier Spaniel, and had a special visit from cousin Delanie and our old nanny Yanet.
2025 - Grand Cayman - To date, this was everyone’s favorite vacation. We hired Irish Dave from the the Crusty Crab to take us on a boat tour to Rum Point and swim with starfish and stingrays. Had the most delicious gelato at Camana Bay, swam with dolphins and sea turtles and attended a beach BBQ at the Westin to hear Dave sing.
2026 - Exuma, Bahamas - It was a “rustic” island with one highway. We drove 30 minutes north to visit the Cays with Exuma water sports to swim with pigs, see rock iguanas and a deserted beach with a ton of shells. I’ve never seen water so clear and sand so sugary soft
After many attempts to find the sign, we took a bumpy road to visit Cocoplum Beach where you can walk out for miles and find sand dollars. Same scenario for Tropic of Cancer beach - a little bit of a bumpy arrival, but found an incredible array of treasures for the sea!
